The first MBA SBA event of the academic year introduced members to who we are and why we exist, as well as gave a look inside the sports industry through different business verticals that employ MBA graduates. We introduced our new executive board and provided access to our Recruiting Guide.

NFL Club Business Development Info Session

November 29, 2022

Brendan Seidman and Abby Desai gave us an in-depth presentation on their business unit and highlighted some of the work they do across the NFL in functions like Club Consulting, Club Business Data & Analytics, and Tentpole Events. They discussed summer 2023 internship opportunities and have established themselves as a fantastic resource for MBA SBA members.

Sports Analytics in Practice Event

December 6, 2022

Alison Lu, Senior Director, Business Analytics & Strategy for the San Francisco 49ers, and Katherine Rowe, Manager, Sports Marketing for Salesforce/MBA SBA Alumni Board Member, spoke about how they use analytics in their organizations. Alison showed us all of the 49ers’ different enterprises, including venture capital, food & beverage, and more. Katherine demonstrated how a tech company gets involved in sports and gave advice to MBA students looking to establish a career in the sports industry.

MBA SBA VC Investment Case Competition

February 3, 2023

Five teams across five schools (UCLA Anderson, Michigan Ross, USC Marshall, Vanderbilt Owen, and Duke Fuqua) competed in the inaugural MBA SBA VC Investment Case Competition. Teams simulated an early stage venture capitalist's work by sourcing, evaluating and, investing in a Seed or Series A Sports venture. This was a two round competition where all teams presented a deliverable that outlined a company, the investment opportunity, and the investment rationale. Three finalist teams (USC Marshall, Vanderbilt Owen, and Michigan Ross) presented to an executive judge panel which included judges from Drive by DraftKings, SeventySix Capital, 49ers Enterprises, and Superfly. Vanderbilt Owen was awarded the inaugural 1st Place Championship prize. Congratulations Vanderbilt Owen.

Michigan Ross Sports TEch Conference

The 2023 Michigan Ross Sports Tech Conference is a virtual event that brings together top companies and leaders from across sports, business, and technology to discuss key trends impacting the industry. The conference consists of networking opportunities, panel discussions, and a keynote fireside chat focused on a variety of topics in sports tech.

Moorad Gameday Case Competition

The Annual Game Day Case Competition is the only sports case competition of its kind in the nation, bringing together JD and MBA students to both present and negotiate solutions to cutting edge topics in sports law and business.

 

Teams from across the country will take a multidisciplinary approach to analyzing, presenting and negotiating solutions to real-world legal and business problems.

Teams of 3-5 students will compete for cash prizes totaling $10,000.

 

Winners will be selected by a panel of senior executives and industry professionals who are leading and shaping the future of the sports industry.

 

Registration for the competition includes free admission to the Jeffrey S. Moorad Sports Law Journal Symposium, which will be focused on this year's topic, "Emerging Topics in Sports." Students who are unable to create a team but would like to still compete, please contact

MBA MEDIA, ENTERTAINMENT & SPORTS CONFERENCE

This is an annual in-person event in its 17th year, jointly organized by NYU Stern and CBS, and will be held on NYU Stern's Manhattan campus. The conference is open to students, alumni, and industry professionals, providing an opportunity to hear from industry experts and to network with other passionate students and professionals. This year’s sports panel, March Madness: The Future of Sports Entertainment, will discuss all of the industry's current hot topics including betting, streaming, fragmentation, and cable.
