Position Summary: Playfly Sports and specifically its Home Team Sports (HTS) Division is currently seeking a Director, Business Development & Strategy to join their team. The position is responsible for structuring and managing new revenue-generating partnerships for Playfly’s sports linear TV and digital media offerings. The Director will develop a solid understanding of the sports media landscape combined with an understanding of the Home Team Sports current integrated Linear & Digital offerings. This position will source new possible relationships, partners and new businesses that utilize the core competencies and premier sales engine within Home Team Sports. Each of these business launches, inventory deals, and partnerships will be managed to a continued successful financial outcome and such stewardship shall include building a productive sales pipeline, developing and managing highly effective account relationships, and driving linear & digital revenue. The Director will be held accountable to quarterly and annual goals as outlined each year by Playfly Senior Management and these expected revenue measures will serve as proof of performance and success for the role. Additionally, the Director will be expected to develop an expansion plan for these new types of inventory and eventually train, lead, and manage a dedicated team. This role will require thorough communication of all Playfly mandates and deal points, through participation in sales calls, planning meetings, and email communications both internally (with all Playfly personnel) and externally (with agencies, clients, and Playfly representation partners). Responsibilities:
Directly in charge of structuring and managing new revenue-generating partnerships and businesses for Playfly’s sports linear TV and digital media offerings.
Negotiate business development deals with new inventory partners to develop new streams of revenue
Develop, partner, and implement new initiatives around new tranches of inventory to utilize the resource and sales teams at Playfly and Home Team Sports.
Manage the new businesses and partnerships to drive financial value and success via sales management, strategic hiring, internal communication, and overall project management.
Aggressively pursue and develop new business plans for initiatives that can use Playfly’s competitive advantages, position in the market, and strategic resources; plus execution with Senior management’s approval
Create innovative digital and TV sales strategies and opportunities tailored specifically Home Team Sports products that expand beyond the existing scope of Playfly’s current client solutions
Support corporate development and mergers and acquisition team in sourcing and executing new deals
Ensure optimal market coverage by participating in client activities, trade association events, and any ancillary activities that can assist in better visibility and partner opportunities
Serve as an expert consulting resource for all Home Team Sports linear & digital offerings and assist the internal teams, representation partners, agencies, and clients to better understand and utilize such offerings
Tasked with developing relationships with other media companies, technology companies, agencies, startups, etc. and subsequently developing strategic partnerships and revenue opportunities
Develop, cultivate and build strong relationships with other corporate and major media entities on cross-sales platforms and partnership opportunities
Assist and support other parts of the Playfly ecosystem such as pro team/college partner development, Playfly Tech & Digital technology business development, Naming Rights, etc.
Qualifications:
This position requires Bachelor’s degree; MBA preferred; Subject matter preference in Sports Media, Communications, Marketing or related fields
A minimum of 3-5 years of corporate sponsorships, network, digital, sales and or agency experience in sports or entertainment field is required, with previous experience in TV and/or business development is a plus
Experience in business development, partner sourcing, and deal structuring; reaching out to partner prospects in the US and abroad
Significant existing industry relationships and ability to establish new contacts and interact at senior levels
Ability to craft new business plans and projection for new initiatives and partners
Interest in and general understanding of the sports, TV, and digital/social media industries, and current contacts within the aforementioned business sectors is strongly recommended
Must have strong oral and written communication skills
Strong organizational, presentation, public speaking, and project management skills are imperative to this role
Knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications, including Word and Outlook is necessary
Must have the ability for analytical reasoning of sales and research data (CPM, impressions, site metrics, data analysis, etc.), and must be technologically savvy with propensity for understanding new technology platforms and how they apply to our business model
A proven ability to develop and maintain successful internal and external business relationships is essential
Playfly Sports is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Compensation includes salary, incentive targets and company benefits. The pay range for this role is $140,000 to $200,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
